Friends of the Fire Service Pilot Scheme – Bradford

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are piloting a new scheme in the Bradford Area which aims to increase the number of high risk Home Fire Safety Check (HFSC) referrals we receive, and subsequently provide a more efficient means of protecting vulnerable and high risk members of the community from the risk of fire. The pilot covers the Odsal, Shipley and Haworth station areas.

We aim to work closely with people who are active members of their communities to generate high risk referral routes so that they can assist us in identifying and subsequently supporting high risk individuals in their localities.
The pilot will involve individuals and organisations being invited to become ‘Friends of the Fire Service’. Participants in the scheme will be given a friendship pack, containing information about the scheme and detailing the nature of the agreement.

We will feedback to our Friends every quarter to thank them for their continued support and to report back on the number of HFSC’s we have carried out as a result of their support.

The new scheme will enable us to provide an improved service to vulnerable individuals who have been hitherto hard to reach, and will contribute to reducing the risk of accidental dwelling fires. We anticipate that the pilot will make us more time and cost efficient as a service and will make us more visible and accessible to all members of the community.
