A new help line for the over 60s in the Wibsey Urban village.
The Bradford South and West Live at Home Scheme are part of a larger organisation know as MHA.
MHA expects all it’s Live at Home Schemes to deliver high quality, person centred care and respect for individuality, personal choice and dignity focussed on nurturing a person’s spiritual and physical well being.
MHA Bradford South and West Live at Home Scheme believe that a special telephone help line will provide another aid towards fulfilling our commitment of support to the over 60s in our community.
By providing;
- Befriending over the phone.
- Signposting to other services.
- Opportunity to reach the more isolated.
- Mediation with some other agencies.
Telephone befriending:
We have always had certain members that we contact regularly by phone but we have just received a local grant to set up a dedicated free phone line, manned by volunteers, to support the lonely and isolated signposting and providing a listening ear. This is available 9.30 until 12 noon every Tuesday and Wednesday
Helpline freephone 0800 107 8595
Befriending:
We have a scheme in place for volunteers to visit socially isolated older people as a friend on a regular basis. Often this leads to people having the confidence to go to social events. For many of these people this can be complicated as mobility is often an issue. At present we have 25 people being befriended, most of whom are over 75.
In the meanwhile we are still running
Monday Morning Drop In 9 o’clock onwards (anything can happen and usually does),
Tuesday morning 9.15 Tai Chi and Craft Club.
Computer classes are starting soon. Is your name down on our list?
Tuesday 2.00pm Tea Dance
Wednesday at 9.30 Extend Exercise Class.
We are also planning trips and holidays so come along to keep in touch.
Don’t forget the generous offer to our age group from the Pubs and Clubs in our area.
