Welcome to the Web page of Bradford Motor Education Project (B.M.E.P.)

Who are we?

A locally based charity formed by professionals with a conviction to help young people realise their real potential.

What's the problem?

Low Educational Attainment

Often caused by lack of commitment, poor attendance and disaffection

Lack of Employment Opportunities

Fewer and fewer jobs are available to those without qualifications

Lack of leisure opportunities

Without the resources to access proper leisure activities boredom sets in

High car crime rates
Boredom leads to increased crime

Supporting Social Inclusion

Most families accept they can access motor vehicles for themselves and their children. For many young people in stress areas this is unattainable. BMEP provides legitimate and constructive access to the fun use of vehicles as tools for leisure, competition and education.

Supporting Training for Work

BMEP operate a range of training programmes that include; mechanical skills, motor bike rider and driver training. The programmes are designed to help young people to find realistic jobs.

What do we do?

Provide programmes which

·Open up access to motor vehicle resources in areas of social, economic and educational deprivation
· Offer alternative education opportunities to disaffected pupils
· Challenge offending behaviour and support positive lifestyles
· Open up realistic job or further training opportunities
· Support sustainable regeneration in local communities

Supporting Education

BMEP operates a range of workshop activities intended to stimulate interest in learning, help pupils to retain their place in school or access other training opportunities so they do not become lost to mainstream provision

Bradford Motor Education Project B.M.E.P. has developed over the past 20 years, through many changes, into one of the largest motor projects in the country. Unlike most motor projects BMEP does not rely on a (perhaps prestigious) centre or track for delivery of its services but instead has a series of relatively small local projects, linked closely to local communities and responsive to the needs of local young people. BMEP is currently operating from main bases at Holmewood and Keighley with satellite bases at Newlands, Car PartsAllerton, Canterbury, Buttershaw and Wyke. In addition BMEP operates a pedal cycle workshop at Thorpe Edge Community Centre and has a marine unit which operates from Shipley.
